185 Scenic Drive
HeatherStone (Highlands Tops) at Ford Mountain
HeatherStone Highlands Tops at Ford Mountain is a gated (unmanned), fully paved Community of 28 homes. Access to Scenic Drive is directly off Bald Mountain Road, 9 miles from Highlands, NC and situated on the Atlanta side of Highlands, making it very easy and pleasant drive. There are three Community ponds and our property borders Scenic Pond, with a beautiful seating area and view of the waterfall. All ponds are stocked, with a "catch and release" policy for resident enjoyment.
The house is situated back from the road with a semi-circular drive shielded from the street by native Mountain Laurels, Rhododendrons and Hemlock trees. The property is 1.13 acres and extends all along Scenic pond from Scenic Drive to Crystal Lane.
The house is built on a gently sloping hill, with access to the Main Level from the front and a walkout Terrace Level to the lower decks and fire pit area. An easy path leads through the woods to Scenic Pond, where you can fish or sit and enjoy the music of the waterfall in this peaceful setting. Native Mountain Laurels, Rhododendrons, Daylilies and Hostas surround the house, providing a spectacular Spring and Summer panorama of color.
The house has been meticulously maintained and continuously updated. The Great Room (Living Room, Dining Room and Kitchen) faces the view through a room-wide “wall of windows” (thermo-pane, "Low E"). From this perspective, you can enjoy the intermediate and long-range layered mountain views all year long, and breathtaking sunsets. The back of the house faces west, providing warm afternoon sun in winter, partially shaded by maple and oak trees in spring, summer and fall.
The house has a large Master Bedroom (hickory floors) and bath (granite and tile) and two additional bedrooms (berber carpet), plus another 1 1/2 baths on the main level. All the room you need for daily living.
The Terrace Level has an additional Family Room with maple flooring, as well as a large carpeted bonus room that can be used as a home gym, children’s play room, game room, etc. This room could also easily be converted to a Kitchen and Dining Room, providing plenty of space and all the needs for two families. A second Master Suite plus two additional bedrooms, one of which is perfectly suited for den/office space, and two baths, complete the Terrace Level.
The Kitchen boasts Cambria (quartz) countertops, custom birch cabinets and a large walk-in pantry for storage. The Dining Room can easily seat 8 to 10 people. The Living Room has a stacked stone gas fireplace with rustic mantle (fully functioning - can be converted to wood-burning) and custom wainscoting throughout. The vaulted Tongue & Groove ceiling and hand-carved stair railing and gate provide a rustic feel. Hickory hard wood floors complement the entire Great Room and Master Bedroom area.
All of the bedrooms except the upstairs Master (Hickory hardwood) and Terrace Level Living Room and Office (Maple hardwood) are carpeted in a rich multi-level berber carpet in a medium neutral tone. The upstairs Master has a new (April 2015) 8.5' granite counter with double sinks, a large updated shower (ivory travertine tile, pebble trim and granite seat), as well as a luxurious soaking tub.
A Sun Room directly off the Master Bedroom features a 5-person hot tub, slate flooring, gas fireplace, two grills (Big Green Egg and Traeger Pellet Grill), and stainless steel lower cabinets with granite counter top. This room also has a seating area with two swivel chairs and cocktail table, as well as a DirecTV outlet.
The house is equipped with air conditioning and two heat pumps (3 1/2 ton and 2 1/2 ton), with 3 zones on the Main Level and 1 zone on the Terrace Level. A whole-house 17 kw Generac generator (replaced in 2014) with automatic transfer switch, fueled by a buried 500 gallon propane tank, protects the home in case of power outages. A monitored alarm system covering all exterior doors, with motion sensors on both floors, provides security and peace of mind.
High-Speed Internet (26 MBS) is provided by Windstream DSL and Verizon provides cell phone service throughout the area.
The Homeowners' Association is governed by the members and the annual fee is currently $645 per lot. The annual water fee is approximately $357 per house. Motorcycles are allowed, but RV's and boats are prohibited.
